Educational links - Open Studio

I would like this blog, not only to include my own material, but educational content that will help others learn some of the things that are done here. In some of my posts I have written articles on how I go about this, but I would also like to share valuable links from around the web on how other's go about arranging their songs. Clearly there is plenty to be learned out there, so I would like to use this blog to collate some of the material.

There is no better place to start than Open Studio on YouTube. There are thousands of hours of absolutely top quality lessons on a wide variety of subjects. Adam Maness and Peter Martin are not only great musicians, but wonderful teachers. One can be really thankful to have this kind of material available to us.

In this video Adam Maness presents two very easy ways to alter a ii-V-I progression. It is a kind of guided practice session, so sit at the piano or get your instrument and play along as and when required. With regards to re-harmonization, these small tools are extremely useful in the long run. Collect enough of these, and with some of the other tips I have given, you are well on the way to having a great bag of tools to rearrange any piece of your choosing. This one alone, used in the right way can spice up any song or chord progression.
