Triste is probably my favourite of all the Bossa Nova standards. I've played it a lot over the years, so it was a natural choice for me to have a look at. I include it here in Bb - the key it is found in most Real Books, but I have been playing it in G, a key that fits better for the piano. There are not huge amounts of changes here. Mainly I have added an intro, and a new vamp, and stripped down some of the ii V progressions. Bars 3-4, 7-8th of the melody (A and B), were also wonderful points to try out various re- harmonizations. Notice that the intro chords reappear in bars 3-4 of the B section.
