Many people have reworked this beautiful and famous song. On YouTube alone there are probably twenty or so videos, including some excellent high level arrangements. (Perhaps at some point it may be interesting to do a small comparison.) I did this today as an exercise. Could I re-harmonize the song using without using any dominant 7th? I wanted to give it that kind of Neo Soul, Gospel vibe so of course I used plenty of minor 11 chords.
It turns out I could, and I think it sounds pretty hip. I recorded it to have a listen, and I was quite happy. Amusingly enough, there's not a single instance of the tonic chord F in the whole song. I don't think that ever happened.
